Adoptable Animals

Adoption Process
1. APPLY
Fill out an adoption application including the name of the animal you are looking to adopt. You do not need to have an enclosure ready at this time, we just want to see if you’re a good fit and we will reach out with questions or to let you know if the animal is on a waitlist.
2. APPROVAL
Upon pre-approval we will put the animal on hold for you to prepare their enclosure. We may also reach out with additional species specific questions or make husbandry recommendations. Once you submit proof of the approved habitat you will be approved for adoption!
3. ADOPTION
All that’s left to do is to schedule an adoption appointment! We will then send you home with your new scaly companion and some helpful care guides. We will always be available for you to reach out to with questions post-adoption.
At Herp Habitat, our priority is placing animals in homes where they can thrive. To ensure this, all adoption requests are carefully reviewed. Please take a moment to read through our guidelines below. By submitting an application, you agree to these terms.
1. Our Right to Decline Applications
We reserve the right to deny any adoption application at our discretion. This includes applications we determine may present potential risks to the animal’s well-being—even if all answers appear technically correct. Our decision-making is always centered around the best interests of the animal.
2. Reevaluation of Approved Applications
Even after an application has been approved, we reserve the right to reverse that decision at any point prior to the transfer of ownership. As long as we maintain legal ownership of the animal, we are committed to ensuring the most suitable placement.
3. Non-Discrimination Policy
We do not and will never discriminate based on race, gender, religion, or other protected characteristics. Our only concern is the quality of care the animal will receive.
4. Multiple Yellow Flags
We may deny an application based on a pattern of concerns—what we refer to as “multiple yellow flags.” Examples include vague or evasive answers, visible disinterest, signs of hostility, attempts to rush the process, or behavior that gives us reason to believe the animal may not be properly cared for.
5. Animal Match Adjustments
In some cases, we may approve an adoption application but recommend a different animal than the one initially requested. This may occur if we feel another animal is better suited to your experience, lifestyle, or home environment.
6. Resubmitting After a Denial
If your application is denied, you may be invited to submit a revised application. However, please note that reversing a denial is uncommon and not guaranteed. We reserve the right to maintain a denied status even after resubmission.
7. Purpose of Adoption Fees
Adoption fees are not for profit. They exist to deter scammers, resellers, and those who may not be ready for the financial responsibility of pet ownership.
8. Fraudulent Information
If we discover any intentionally falsified or misleading information in your application, you will be permanently banned from adopting through us. We may also share this information with other rescues or animal welfare organizations to protect animals across the community.
Available Animals:

Sploot
Bearded Dragon - 9 Months
260g • 16in
Adoption Fee: $100
Juvenile • Good eater • Independent • Spunky
Sploot eats every meal you give her with enthusiasm! She’s very sweet but may still get a bit startled at sudden hands reaching towards her. She’s not the type of dragon to scratch at the glass because she wants to fall asleep in your arms, but this young beardie is independant, confident, has amazing colors, and a huge personality.

Doobie
Bearded Dragon - 1 Year
330g • 17in
AVAILABLE FOR PRE-APPROVAL ONLY
Adoption Fee: $150
Adult • Needs extra care • Sweet • Active
This girl was in rough shape when she first came to us with tail rot, stuck shed, and she severely underweight. She has however made amazing progress in her recovery, and despite having a bit of an attitude, she’s really just a big softy and will make an excellent companion to anyone looking for a lizard with a backstory.
(Not yet ready for adoption, but she will be soon. Apply for pre-approval or inquire for more info!)

Lemon
Leopard Gecko - 11 Years
50g • 8in
AVAILABLE FOR PRE-APPROVAL ONLY
Adoption Fee: $100
Adult • Needs extra care • Mostly Tong Fed • Active
Lemon came to us with an eye abscess, stuck shed, and very underweight. Today he is as good as new and looking forward to spending his prime years in his forever home! He’s got a ton of energy, is very sweet, and is a great eater despite needing some tong feeding. Lemon requires increased feedings and extra vitamin supplementation to support his weight gain and continued recovery from a vitamin A deficiency.
(Not yet ready for adoption, but he will be soon. Apply for pre-approval or inquire for more info!)

Dumbo
Russian Tortoise - 5 Years
Adoption Fee: $100
Adult • Long time resident • Independant • Attitude
Dumbo is a little guy with a big personality! He’s all about his greens (and LOVES some occasional zucchini and pumpkin) and doesn’t mind being hand fed. While he isn’t a fan of being handled or spending time outside his enclosure, he’s happiest stomping around his space, digging holes, and eagerly waiting for his daily salad. His routine is everything, and he takes it very seriously!
Dumbo is a long term commitment, living around 50 years, so we will want to ensure his future home is very well equipped to provide him care for the long term.
We like to hold onto animals until we know they are in excellent health and ready for their forever homes. Follow us on social media and check back later to see updates on adoptable animals!
